I know it was recommended to me to get a flash for my horse b/c he constantly stretches and yawns to try and push the bit out....but this was after a year of not having a bit in his mouth, and before that he was a racehorse, so he would strain against the bit which would force his mouth open.... I had him in a plan D-ring snaffle. The more he was bridled the less he seems to do it, but after that he started tossing his head to keep me from bridling him.... In short, I switched to a hackamore, and my problem is solved!
