Vegetable Oil?

Ok so I just bought a new bridle and I don't have any leather conditioner on hand. My friend said that it would be ok to use vegetable oil instead, but I'm not sure if I should trust my $200 show bridle to vegetable oil. :( Does anyone have any advice about this? Thanks so much in adance! :)

It'll go rancid and STINK, especially in the heat.

I'd run out and grab just some cheap Neatsfoot or Lexol or something.

Ok, thank you so much! I ever thought about that! I'm going to the tack store friday so I'll pick some up. :)
