wanting to know how to make a rope bridle for use with a bosal

Years ago I had an old farrier tie a cotton string (rope) bridle for me on a bosal with mecate reins. It worked very well for the horse and rider and seemed to allow the bosal to rest naturally compared to a stiff leather bridle. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find information on tying one. The bridle part not the reins as I have that covered. :)

back when i used my bosal a lot i just got a very lightweight nylon bridle with big enough ends (where bit normally would go) for the bosal to fit. used an old soft rounded shoelace for a throatlatch to keep the buckle of the bridle away from my horse's eye should the cheekpiece of the bridle move up at all - though it never did, but i felt better knowing it couldn't bop him in the eye at all.

i know that doesn't exactly answer your question about how to tie on a homemade rope style bosal bridle, but just giving you an option that may be easier?

If you find the cheek straps are too close to the horse's eyes, tie a knot in the end of 2 shoelaces or strings and run it thro a hole on each side. Pull it a little snug then tie under the jaw. This will give more eye clearance.
