i got a new bridle today for my wb. i just pulled it apart to clean it and its really weird. it has the normal cheek straps etc but it has two sets of reins. one pair are normal size and the other are about half the width.
there is also another bit that i cannot figure out what its for. ive taken a picture of it so that i dont have to explain it lol
the only difference is that the size is a warmblood size. other than that i thought it was a normal bridle. its a kincade bridle if that makes any difference
thats what i thought at first but i didnt think double bridles had an extra set of cheek straps. well not a set as you can see from the pic. i checked the tag again and its supposed to be a normal bridle just a warmblood size :? lol dunno ive just set it up as a normal bridle until i figure out what what the other strap thing is for
usually with two sets of reins they just get attached to the one bit as far as i know. never used one myself just seen them. yup, prob a dressage thing hehehe
The double bridle is used with two bits in high-level dressage: the bridoon (snaffle) and a curb bit. The bridoon sits behind the curb in the horse's mouth. So since you have two bits, you have 2 pairs of reins, 2 pairs of cheekstraps. Its also referred to as a full bridle or a weymouth. Its also used in saddleseat.

Unless you plan on doing high-level competitive dressage, I'd try to return it...there really isn't any other reason to have one. This the same place that sold you your new rug? :P
