Washing Winter Blankets

I am ashamed to say that I have not washed my winter blankets since last winter. How do you all clean yours? I would rather not haul them to the laundromat but will if I have to. They are stinky and a little muddy and I need to wash them so I can repair some tears.

Well...this year I'm going to wash them one by one in the washer and hang dry them in the summer sun so they dry quicker and store them up. I need to wash mine too. We took them to the laundry mat last year and man did they take up all our time/money. They don't get clean enough and don't dry good there. It's a waste IMHO.
