which western saddle do you recommend?

I normally ride english in the arena so I don't know too much about western saddles. I am currently going on a lot of trails so I have switched over to western for the sake of a more secure seat while riding in the uneven terrain on a green horse. My nice jumping saddle just doesnt cut it on the trail.

I am desperately in need of a new western saddle but am on a really tight budget less than $1,000). I want to buy something new not used. I know that I cannot get a top of the line saddle for that price. I just want to be able to get a half way decent saddle that will do what I need it to do. I don't show or anything so no need for anything fancy.

The western saddle I have now is just an old cheap saddle that I got for free about 10 years ago from a family member that can no longer ride. It is a little too small for me, the seat is so hard that without a cushion if you ride in it for more than 20 min you will have bruises on your bum, and it is falling apart. As I said before, I am really in need of a new saddle.

I am looking for a saddle to use on trails. The horse I am currently riding will sometimes spook and spin so I want a saddle that has a really secure seat. Preferably a saddle with a rounded skirt as they tend to fit my horse better.

What are your thoughts on the American Saddlery Hill Country Trail Saddle.

Which of these 2 do you think looks like it has the more secure seat? Is there any other saddle that you would recommend over either of these? Any suggestions at all are greatly appreciated.

I have both english and western saddles. I recently bought an aussie saddle and it's pretty much perfect for the type of trail riding I want to do - more secure than the english and lighter than the western. Check out the Downunder saddle website (that's who made my saddle).

I would go with the American Saddlery, they are made in Tennessee, I prefer to keep American Workers busy

I was also considering this saddle. It looks like it would be a very secure saddle if my little guy decided to throw a temper tantrum. It also has the rounded skirt that I am looking for. I would be pushing it to afford the other american saddlery saddle with a price tag of $850. But this one is only $600. At the same time the price tag worries me because of the old saying "you get what you pay for"

Any thoughts or opinions on this one?

The last Model is a basic model from American, they tend to take a little extra oiling to get them broken in, but a good basic model

I agree with this. I hate western saddles (been in a dozen different ones and never sat in one that didn't make my butt or legs hurt...and they were all big-name brands or custom/handmade in America saddles), so I tried an Aussie saddle. SUPER comfy and lightweight, but offers an extremely secure seat. It'll also put you in a position closer to an English position, which might be more comfortable for you.
