Western saddle pad suggestions?

I'm about to get a western saddle again for my guy. I've been English for 2 years so I'm kinda out of the loop of the best, although not pricey western saddle pad. Ideally I'd like to stay under $100. I need contoured for sure, he has high withers. I'd appreciate any suggestions :)

I am a huge fan of diamond wool pads. They are top quality for the price and with proper care last a long time.
smrobs and mammakatja like this.

Great, thanks for the reply! I had looked into that and saw that type of pad had good reviews but I don't know many that use it.

I'm in the same situation as you... been riding English my whole life and finally bought a western saddle just for fun. I really want a wool felt pad with contour, and this Diamond pad was recommended to me:
Ranch Tough Contoured Pad

I haven't actually bought it yet so I can't give any input, but I'll probably be placing that order soon...

Hi amp23!

There are quite a few recent threads that have provided great feedback on 5-star, Impact Gel, CSI, and other Western saddle pads but those are way over the price point you set. Even buying those pads used (if you can find them) generally will be above $100.

As DuckDodgers noted, the Diamond Wool Ranch Tough pad has good feedback.

Yeah, I wish I could afford one of those that I know is good but a college budget doesn't allow for it unfortunately :(

Reinsman wool pad is around $100, high quality and holds up perfectly. My suggestion anyways.

How much of a difference is there between the different brands of wool pads?

Haha, that's my issue. I would LOVE a 5 star pad, but they cost more than my saddle did! If I had another $100+ to spend on horse tack then my used saddle budget would have been another $100 higher... And coming from the English world of inexpensive quilted pads being more than adequate I would have said that you're nuts if you told me that I'd even be considering spending $60+ on one regular saddle pad!!
