Western Saddle sizing!

Well I know you need to really get a saddler out to fit saddles but as im in UK and western people are far and few thats nearly impossible so im wondering...

Are western saddles harder to fit/easier or same as english? I am pretty sure he needs a 15" western because he needs a 17" english but people say I might need a 16" for me... Can i measure how big I need?

Also, in english the gullet is 'wide' but I know they vary and so do western saddle so should I measure the gullet on the english saddle that fits and match it with whichever bars are correct for the measurement I got, if you get me? So say it came out as a 7" gullet english and ful quarter bars on a saddle were 7" would I get that or is it measured in a different place?

I also want a relatively light saddle so I was thinking synthetic but im going off that so are there any makes that produce lightweight good quality leather saddles?

And also, should I get a round skirt as iv heard they are better for short backed horses which I think my guy is...

Final question , what colour would look best on a bay horse? My english tack is black but most western tack seems to be brown so I want to go that way but I have no idea what medium oil, light oil etc is(if thats even colour) and I dont want to buy a saddle in a colour that will look weird on my horse.

Please help EVERYONE!! Even if you can only offer a sentence of advise... Saddles are too much money to make a mistake but im stuck without a fitter...

Thanks in advance

P.S Added a pic of my guy so you can see what colour tack would look best on him..

Here is my bay in his medium-dark brown saddle.... I love how it compliments and is not too dark, not too light.... I think a light one would look odd and I just don't like black western saddles.

This is a dark picture of my horse.... his coloring is more like what is in my avatar and close to your horses color- more of a red bay.
