Can you use a martingale with western tack? My bridle doesn't have a nose band...

Not a standing martingale, but a running one, yes. The western equivalent of a standing martingale (I think) is a tie-down.

I just do western pleasure...all trail riding...nothing fancy...i am just trying to control his speeding a little....haha

I think half halts work best for speed control.
