    Western tack help

I have a set of western tack for my pony.
It does tend to slip a bit on her, to the side (saying that, she was like a barrel, she was so fat, when I last had it on her). I have a pretty thick (also quite stiff) saddle cloth for under it, and it's not the most unslip material.
I only have a front cinch for it and I don't have a breastplate.
How tight should the cinch be on a western saddle? Any other ideas =/

EDIT: Also, the saddle was never used before I bought it, so it hasnt really been 'shaped'.

You should be able to fit a flat hand between your horse and the horses girth when it is fully tightened.

However, it sounds to me like your saddle tree may be too big. Did you measure her withers before buying a saddle? If you didn't use the method described here and then buy a saddle based on those measurements. The measurement of the withers is how wide your gullet of the saddle should be, and the back measurement is useful for finding out how wide of an angle you need your saddle tree to be.
