Now, here is the thing... My filly is also black. I am planning on using her for showing, and gymkanna in the future. I like this saddle because everything is included, it is leather, and has full QH bars. I think it will fit my horse, but if it doesn't I will sell it and get a saddle that does.
Would it look good on her because they are both black. I am planning on getting a pink saddle blanket, to look better and give some colour, but what are your opinions?
Saddle is junk. Sorry but it's true. I tried the black tack on black horse. I personally didn't care for it. I like a medium leather on my black horse (well technically he's gray but appears black) I also tried extreme color contrasts, i had some yellow tack, and that was god awfull to my eyes. I feel he looks best in plain ole cowboy style leather. Contrasts but not so much that it takes your eye off of his color. Hope that helped. A pink blanket may look good though. I like pink and black together. I put pink racing stripes on my wife's black car and it looked amazing. Posted via Mobile Device
Is the saddle good quality though? I don't like black saddles, but right now, it is all I can afford, and I think it I have something to cut the black off from the black, it will look okay. I will not be doing any big shows, just small town local shows. The beggest show I will be going to is one on Saskatoon.
I'm an English saddle girl, so I take my Western saddle opinion with a grain of salt. From an English perspective, any new saddle for that price isn't going to be very good quality. I assume the same goes for Western. I think if you search for Saddles Online in this forum's search feature, you'll find some peoples' opinions on them - people who actually have those saddles. I'm sure you'll find both pros and cons, so you can make a good decision.
I always thought black saddles looked cool on black horses if they had a bright red or purple pad.
Some good synthetics might be worth it. I think Big Horn is one that sells condura? I've read somewhere that they were pretty good, but I could be wrong. Posted via Mobile Device
No the saddle is junk. Not worth the money to ship junk. Buy it, cut it in half, look at why it's junk, then light it in fire junk. Lol. Posted via Mobile Device
I wouldnt. Id wait save some more and buy a better quality saddle. There are many decent quality used saddles for fairly cheap if you look around as well as used tack sets. My set was off ebay for 40 reins, bridle and breast collar. Just need to search around.
Okay, well, I guess I am out of luck for saddles for a while, I cannot afford anything over 300 dollars (not including shipping) and that is the cheapest I have found.
I do not want a synthetic saddle. I want a complete set, leather saddle, preferably medium oil. Any suggestions on where to look?
I bet you can find a quality used saddle in your price range. Do you have any consignment shops in your area? Craigslist? eBay can be risky if you don't know exactly what to look for and what to ask. There are reputable online stores that sell used saddles, often with a trial period.
You still have time. The horse is still growing and likely won't fit the same in the next five years as she will when she gets the saddle any way Posted via Mobile Device
Facebook groups. That's where I find all the great saddle buys. Its all local and mostly within range to come out to look/feel/ and maybe borrow to test. Posted via Mobile Device
If you look hard enough you can usually find better quality saddles, nothing amazing but not 100% junk, for sale for around $250 or $300 at consignment tack stores or Craigslist, if you're diligent enough. I just recently found an older Circle Y for $300 and it is comfortable and feels great, plus it was already broken in so I didn't have to deal with that horrible breaking in phase  Posted via Mobile Device
The saddle is likely junk, as Phly said. Even a scratched one, as the ad said this one is, cannot be sold with "everything" for $299 and be anything but junk.
I think you'd be best looking for a nice second hand one. Color is not your jfirst concern, fit is.
And what about the second? That is the one I am really interested in. I know it comes with tack, has full QH bars and is leather, and in my price range.
Lots of good advice here! Look for something brand name! You want the seller to be proud of it. You want as many detailed, close up pictures of all the parts, rigging, and fleece as you can get your hands on. Don't be afraid to ask for more pictures, ask how much it weighs. Ask for photos of it on and off of a horse.
Used saddles are the way to go for a first time buyer.
My lease owner has an over one hundred year old saddle. I got to ride in it, and it is the most comfy saddle in the world!! And beautiful, too. Has a few nicks and slight dings... But it looks amazing. Only had to be retooled and fixed up once as far as I know.
Is the quality on this one bad? I really like it and I hope to buy it if not bad quility, I don't care about looks really, but how it feels, and fits my horse. I admit I want a saddle that won't be hiddious in shows, but looks are not the most important to me.
Any new "total package" saddle that you find on Ebay for that sort of price is not going to be a quality saddle, period. They are no-name, made in India saddles. You really need to consider adjusting to looking at used saddles that will give you more quality for a lower price.
Do you have any tack shops in your general area that do used/consignment tack sales? Have you inquired at the local pony clubs, etc (here I would suggest 4-H, not sure if there is a similar group in Canada??) - many of groups here have tack swaps a couple times a year where they sell tack via "tables" (similar to a yard or tag sale, but for tack) or auction as a fundraiser for that group.
