it's nearly impossible to see if the saddle really fits with a saddle pad on
put it on bareback...does the sides form the side of your horse? put your hands between the saddle and the horses side (where the tree is). Is it really tight? or can you get your hand in there with little problem?
Can you get 3-4 fingers inbetween the tree and the horses withers when there is no girth on it?

Also...ride the hosre till he/she is sweating on his/her back and then look to see if there are any dry spots around the withers. If there is the saddle is too tight

Also how does your horse react when you ride in it? Any short stepping? Unwillingness? Acting not normal?

It is very difficult to see by the pictures given. It does look from the angle that it might be a bit tight in the shoulders. Sorry it's very hard to tell by the photos given.

I haven't tried this but I read that a clean white towel placed under the saddle and then ridden will tell whether the saddle fits. You should be able to look at the towel to where you are getting contact.

Katie, based on your pictures - especially the last one of him alone - the saddle does not fit your horse - not even close.

Look at how much higher the pommel is vs the cantle then look at the way your leathers fall. The leathers should fall down the middle of your flaps and end up over your girth, not off towards the back. And that's before you get on causing your weight to push the saddle down on his withers.

From your pictures I would say that it is way to tight.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just explaining why I'm right.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

I agree it looks tight in the shoulders. But it is hard to tell from those pictures. It's a pretty saddle though. Just not sure if it fits your horse correctly.

Yeah, its not sitting at the right angle at all. Either too far forward or too narrow for your horse.
