what saddle?

I am getting my first horse soon, and she is a Tennessee walking horse and I am going to ride her mainly for pleasure and trails. What kind of saddle should I get? Since she is twh and gaited do I need a gaited saddle? What kind is most comfy for just riding for fun? Thanks:)

What kind of riding will you be doing? Trails, pleasure, dinking around, small jumps, cross-country, endurance, showing?
Do you have any preference towards English or Western? How experienced are you? Do you have a good seat or do you need "help" from your saddle? Do you like longer or shorter stirrups? Forward-seat, 2-point, or a relaxed comfy laid-back ride?

My sister-in-law has a couple of TWHs that she just rides for pleasure/afternoon light trail riding. She uses an A/P English saddle (Wintec 500) with a wide enough gullet plate to accommodate their scapulas. I ride a TWH/Arab with an A/P English saddle (old Passier), and he does a comfy gait in that (also pleasure/trails). I make sure that the tree-points are well behind his scapulas.

I'm no TWH/gaited horse expert by any means. I just ride a couple of them.
If you prefer Western riding, then someone else will have to help you.

If it's just for pleasure and trails I'd look into western saddle. I know there are saddles out there specifically designed for gaited horses (I believe there is a model by Abetta, and I'm sure there are others as well, just make sure the saddle will fit your horse).
