What seat size do I need?

I am going to buy an english saddle. I was wondering what seat size I need.

I am 5ft8-9 and growing.
I weigh approx. 145-155 lbs (haven`t weighed myself recently)
I use a 15ěnch seat size in western.

I like a very nice dever gp 16inch-17inch saddle.. would that fit me?

At you're height, I would suggest a 17" long flap, or 17.5-18" regular flap. Your height has almost more to do with English saddle size than weight. You don't want your knee to be forward of the flap or too low on the flap. 17" saddles are really designed for women of average height, 5'3"-5'6". Smaller than 17" are for very petite women or big kids. My 5'6" daughter rides best in a 17.5" saddle or a 17" with a longer flap (she has long legs for her height). But she can ride just fine in my husband's 18" AP, lol.

I'd say 17-17.5 because of your long legs. But each saddle is cut differently, so you'll need to test out everything.

My instructor has an 18 inch black dressage saddle(I didn't look at the brand). It fits me MUCH better than the 18 inch brown one!

I've heard mixed things about Dever, mostly that they are hard and stiff, but others like them.

Definitely try out the saddle first. They're all slightly different. I'm 5'4 and 135 pounds, and mine is a 17.5", fits me perfectly. Also, it depends on how YOU like your saddle to fit your bum! Many people like their saddles a bit on the large side because there's more room for your seat to move, while others want their seat to be wedged between the pommel and cantle for a more "secure" feeling. I would never buy a saddle without trying it out first on both you and your horse.

I'm about your size/weight with long legs. I use 17.5 long flaps CC saddle (15 western). If you have long legs you definitely should go with the long flaps.

Okay thanks everyone! I don't think I will try out this saddle b/c she says it's a 16" but possibly at the max. a 17", she said she would measure it.

So, probably somewhere between 17"-18" for me :)
