How often do you think grooming supplies should be cleaned?
I clean mine once a month. in my opinion, if you dont clean your brushes..their dirty. So arent you just making your horse more dirty?:-|

i ALWAYS brush out the excess dirt out of my brushes when i am done using each one... it takes less than a second... Also How will you get a dirty horse clean with dirty brushes!!? :D once a month i throw all my grooming stuff into a big bucket throw some bleach in and fill it with water and let them soak for about 1/2 an hour. then shak em out and put them in direct sunlight to dry... (and the UV rays will kill any remaining bacteria) Plus if you consistently clean your grooming supplies your horse will be less likey to get skin problem or contract them for other horses whos owners have barrowed your grooming stuff. Keeping your stuff clean will also make it last longer and work better! i groom multiple times a day and over time the dirt builds up at the base of the bristles.

I clean them....when they're dirty ;) Usually about once a month. Everything plastic I throw in a bucket with some blanket wash, let soak, then give it a scrub, rinse, and leave them out to dry. Brushes with wooden handles I only submerge the bristles (up to the wood) in soapy water, then the rest is the same as the other brushes. This keeps the wood from deteriorating. I always find that my curries get dirty before my brushes do.

I just pull out the hair/wipe off the dander whenever it seems necessary. I have never put any sort of cleaning solution on my brushes. The only thing that gets on my brushes is my own horse's hair and dander, so I don't feel a need to disinfect them. If my horse had some sort of rain rot/fungus I certainly would clean the brushes. Plus, my horse has very sensitive skin (he has gotten hives from rolling in new shavings and rolling in new arena footing) so I don't want to run the risk of getting any irritating cleaning solutions into his skin.
