What? No. Not from what I'm seeing.

Half chap:

Both are from google images.

I just want to know what the heck the difference is. Why are they two separate things?

I think it's the UK version of halfchaps.

This is what I think of when I hear Gaiter:

Hmm perhaps you are right.
But a lot of websites have both, in separate sections.
I was thinking maybe gaiters are the only ones to have zips up the back?
Or I thought maybe gaiters were not made of flexible leather like half chaps.

Hard to tell from pics.

I used to think gaiters and half chaps were the same but they're not

Gaiters are leather and go higher up the leg and have a curve up at the top like the picture.
Half chaps are straight cut at the top.
I'm not quite sure why they're so different because in the BHS exam im doing in november it says no half chaps but gaiters are acceptable.

Gaiters aren't for the horse though unless they're different then the ones in ireland and england
They're just like half chaps

In AUS, Gaiters are full leather, and smoothout. Chaps are normally synthetic, or if leather, usually roughout or suede.

Gaiters are allowed in PC competition, but chaps are not.

Green Broke
Gaiters = Looks like tall boots when on.

Half chaps = looks like chaps .

US Gaiters = used in horse hoof boots to keep sand/dirt out of the boot and protect the fetlock from rubbing.
