What's your Favorite Leather Conditioner?

So, I just rummaged an old English saddle out of storage, and it's a little stiff from just sitting for a few years (but immaculately clean).

Anyone have any tips for reconditioning a saddle?

Any favorite products that you use?


I generally just use "Leather New" for normal cleaning/conditioning of my tack and everything stays nice and supple. On brand new tack, I usually do one initial coat of Neatsfoot Oil. I've used both on this saddle (and Leather CPR) with only slight softening results. Do I actually need to ride in the saddle during my reconditioning period?

I use Bentley's Saddle soap, but that's more a cleaner. Still, it works pretty good.

Neatsfoot oil for a conditioner and preserver, and I use Lexol for everything else.

I use Lexol for cleaning and conditioning. It works really well! You can usually find Lexol at any tack or feed store.

Leather Therapy Conditioner is awesome. Riding in the saddle and working the leather will help soften it up as well.

Thanks for all the replies! I have some Lexol, so I'll give that a try. I'll also check if my tack shop has Skidmore's since it specifically said for use in brining dry leather back to life. I've also heard a lot of good things about Leather Therapy products...maybe I'll have to give their Conditioner a try! Ohh boy I'm going to have a big bill next time I'm at the tack shop! =)

I've used it for bringing back some pretty gross pieces of tack. It smells good, too :)

My instructor swears by Neatsfoot Oil, I've used Bickmore Leather Cleaner and Leather Conditioner (two separate products) on my tack so far. I'm thinking about trying the Neatsfoot on this new saddle, tho.
