Question White tape fencing and...duct tape? .....Just read it. =P

Okay so, I just finished putting up close to 700 feet of white tape fencing around the top of the fenceline in the pasture. I secured everything correctly, etc. etc. But I added duct tape in some places just to be sure. lol I'm a worry wort. But here's my question... The duct tape isn't gonna like... start on fire or anything right (electric fence)?

Maybe it's a stupid question, but it'll put my mind at ease. Or make me run out there and unplug the fence. haha

There is nothing about the duct tape that should cause a fire but the tape will not last long exposed to the sun and the elements. The covering will begin to separate and leave the cloth and glue exposed.

A better choice to protect splices (if that is what you are doing) is to use regular electrical tape. It will hold up much better. You can also put it over the duct tape rather then remove it if you prefer.

The only thing to be concerned with is grounding. If you are jumping and touch the fence you won't get shocked. It's only when your feet are on the ground that you can be shocked. Same with any tape - as long as it isn't touching the fence post, the tall grass, or the ground, there is no danger of a problem.

As Iride said electrical tape will work much better. I discovered some stuff called "liquid tape" I ordered it online but I noticed they now have it at our local Wal Mart. Great stuff and it holds up amazingly well in outdoor conditions.

Good suggestions, guys. I might try something else. The tape is just where the white tape is looped through the end brackets. I secured it with those clamp thingers and then I just duct taped the loose end down to the white tape.
