I saw a side shot of your horse on another thread. How tall? What size seat are you getting?
Looks to have a short back so tree length will be something to take into consideration.

YES! My goodness, shortest back I've ever seen. I'm not sure of his height specifically.. I know he is somewhere around 13 hands. I was looking at possibly a 17'' maybe 16.5''. I am definitely going through SmartPak. So I will be using their try it out option.

The saddle I have now is a 15'' I believe and I find it a bit to claustrophobic.. It is western though. It is an Arabian saddle by Simco.

Very few saddles are made with a shorter tree so I would get some measurements of point of shoulder to that last vertebrae so you know an idea of how long of tree you should have. You could also have someone shorten the panels on a saddle if you find one you like.

Since you're switching from western, you might like the feel of the deeper seat of a dressage saddle when you're just starting out, but the AP 500 is quite a nice saddle

I don't remember which one is the last vertebrae.. Isn't it the last one with a rib attached?

I'm fairly confidant I will like English WAY better, there was a time I was so irritated with my saddle I just rode bareback. Trails and everything. So I'm pretty confidant in my seat. Plus my horse is pretty willing and calm..
