Hi I am wondering what you think about wintec saddles, I currently have a vsd but gets to narrow toward the back, and don't know wether to buy a wintec wide as my horse has put on weight from not being ridden but dont think it will fit her when she gets a bit fitter, can't decide wether to call saddler as she is unfit and will change shape again. Does anyone use them? CONFUSED!

Not sure what you mean by 'too narrow towards the back'. The Wintec Wide tree is only slightly wider in seat and panel though the tree itself is a fair bit flatter.

I'd concur with gigem88 and have a saddler take a look. It's pointless changing the saddle unless you really need to, particularly if it's only a width-at-the-shoulder issue.

I want to get the saddler but he will want to see me ride and my horse has not been ridden for 4 months so it won't be the easiest job, the gullet gets narrower so I can only fit just 3 fingers where further up its 4-5 she's a bit fat at the mo but fits her well on shoulders. Thanks for your replies

Unless your horse has a lot of draught blood I doubt the gullet is too narrow.

Bear in mind that because the panel curves upwards into the gullet, the gap is wider where it sits on the horse's back than it is higher in the channel, towards the underside of the tree.

Plus, right at the cantle the gullet curls up well away from the horse's spine unless the panels are very flat or the horse very fat. :)
