Winter blankets...

I just bought two new blankets (one was by accident... stinkin' ebay). They're brand new, never used.

The first is a "640D turnout winter waterproof blanket" that I paid around $80 for (including shipping).

The second is a "New JP North Quilted Horse Blanket 75" Blue/Black" and I paid around $38 for it (this is the one I "accidentally" bought).

Which one is better, and why? I've never really used winter blankets before, but my new horse is on the thin side and I want to make sure he stays warm. Thanks in advance!

The quilted blankets are usually stable blankets. They're not waterproof and should not be used in wet weather. You can use a waterproof sheet over it if you want to use it as a turnout.

As for the other one, I don't trust any no-name blanket. I have seen more than a few that ended up being not waterproof at all, and the horse ended up soaked and shivering badly. $80 is an okay price, but not that great of a deal for a 640d outer shell. I paid $60 each for two 600d medium weight blankets from statelinetack.com, and they were a brand name.
