Wool saddle blankets

If you get a wool show saddle blanket do you have to put somthing underneath them?

We always did at shows. We'd put a regular work-type pad under the blanket. Just make sure the blanket completely covers the pad.

I always do. I very rarely have to wash my show blankets because they get no sweat on them--the work pad does.

I put a light weight wool felt pad under each of my two best saddle blankets as they are not particularily thick (beautiful otherwise though). It is mainly to give the best fit for the horses but it does have the bonus of keeping the blanket cleaner.
