We had an oldie like that in the barn and we called it the "banana seat" saddle :) It is like a modern day cutback saddle seat (plantation style) saddle, just not cut back at the withers.
Okay, since you said it could be a plantation type, I googled mkg english saddles.. I didnt find the company but I did find another saddle by them, it also looks smooshed.. how funny I thought its been under a pile of heavy things for years... hehe
Looks kind of like an old polo saddle to me. Be a pretty good chance of that, being from England. And they used to have even wider flaps than they do now.
