These saddles are all priced around 50% off or more! These are VERY nice saddles... A friend of mine has one and it's high quality leather/workmanship and fits a lot of horses. If anyone is interested, I'd call and see if maybe you can work out a better deal if you buy two!
I wish I needed a western saddle, I would so snatch one up...
This one is my favorite!
And it's only $435!!!! Normally over $1,200....
Do you know they are imported? For certain? My friend has their barrel saddle and it looks a lot better than most imported saddles I have seen. It's only slightly lower in quality than my Circle Y.
I am Pretty Sure, knowing wholesale costs of Saddles very well. There are some telltale signs, like the slight wave in the leather on the back of the skirts and the thickness of the leather, but mainly the cost. I find it hard to believe, someone sells a saddle, even in a going out of business sale for a lot less than US manufacturing costs.
I was referring to the Wade Style Saddle Pictured and the other Wade and Ranch Saddles on the website, they Engravings alone are worth 200-250 dollars if done in the US
www.saddleonline.com try this place if u want a starter saddle their prices are really good my friend bought one and it's very pretty. i dont know about the quality but i thought about getting one 4 myself just to ride around the house with. check it out....
Do NOT buy one of those cheap starter sets. You're better off getting a mid-grade new saddle (like a Dakota, Simco, American Saddlery, etc.) or an older used good saddle. Those really cheap Asian imports are built on fiberglass trees with really low quality leather. They are not worth buying, for any price.
I wouldn't touch ANY of the saddles on that web site, sorry. Pretty does not equal quality.
The saddles in my original post would be consider mid-grade saddles.
I feel faint when I see and here about these Imports, I have seen too many problems, Horses Sore, Broken Trees, pulled out Screws and other thing with these Saddles, I was talked into three different makers of Import Saddles One Time and Regretted it.
Do not get me wrong not all Import Western Saddles are bad, but everyone knows the old saying "You Get What You Pay For".
Most of the less than $300.00 Saddles you find are made from Water Buffalo besides the Hollow Trees, Etc, Generally the Leather does not smell too good either.
Yup, nasty piss-tanned leather, lol. I have had a few of those really cheap imports in my hands before and was not impressed... And just TRY and re-sell them, lol. You're lucky to get $50. But, if you buy a nice used saddle, and you decide to sell it down the road, you're likely to get what you paid for it, or even more!
Now, we do have a "premium" import sitting right here in the computer room. It's an English Dressage saddle that was made for Textan by an Asian company back around 2000-2001. It's actually not half bad. I wouldn't buy it for an everyday riding saddle, but it's good for what we use it for, ground training and breaking. I'm not going to cry if a horse rolls on it and it dies, lol. The tree in it is a cheaper tree, but it's still a wood/metal traditional english tree. The leather is kind of funky, but it's not water buffalo or really thin cowhide. It wouldn't stand up to a ton of use, but like I said, it works for what we use it for, it fits most young horses pretty well (medium tree, semi-qh type), and it's actually pretty comfy ;-). We bought it on the last day of one of those expo shows for only $89, lol. The original retail tag on it was $350, expo "special price" of $250. The guy didn't sell very many of the brown ones, so he put those out at just over cost to get rid of them (I knew the shop owner). He sold all but a couple!
Anyway, I digress. For the price of a new import, you can usually find a quality used saddle. Especially if you go for a "vintage" saddle. Those OLD saddles are really worth their weight in gold! My husband has a circa 1920 McClellan officer saddle and it's GREAT! It fits his funky backed Anglo Arabian like a charm and it's in such good shape for a saddle nearly 100 years old... We had the rigging redone and put new English stirrups and leathers on it, but the saddle itself is in great shape. We bought it on eBay for $175!
