I am tired of leather and am due to replace an existing headstall. I was thinking of going with biothane, but it's very difficult to get up here, expensive and I am absolutely not buying on line again. (I seem to get burned every time, so I give up.)
I trail ride. Currently using a french link, D-rings. I am likely going to try a very short shanked bit this spring, but that's not something engraved in stone. Just an experiment.
A store I trust has this headstall on sale for only $15 Cdn. and I'm thinking this is a good option for us. I'm looking for input/opinions from y'all.
I was looking to get one of those as an extra and read mixed reviews. Several of the usual horse supply catalogs offer it.
Some said it was ok/good for an extra and others said it just fell apart after only a few uses.
Since I seemed to find more negative reviews than positive, I went with something else.
I've got one in that style. I've had it for a few years now. In all honesty, I don't use it a lot so I can't vouch for its longevity with heavy usage. Otherwise, it's kept a good appearance, it's a comfortable fit and because it's synthetic it's easy to care for.
P.S. Just remembered - I found the brow band was a little snug for my "big face" horses but OK for the narrower ones.
I've never used one but just judging from the picture, I wonder if it might be a problem if the horse has a super small head. The lower cheek pieces look like they're really long and if you have to adjust them for a small-headed horse, the buckles might end up somewhere close to the browband.
Again, never dealt with one, but judging from the picture.
A friend has used one for about 10 years on her arab and part arab. She is happy with it. She bo't the matching reins then realized she prefers leather reins.
I have that exact one in green. At the time that I got it, I just wanted something different, it was cheap and the green looked really good on my Palomino. I no longer use it as I have gone bitless, but I have no complaints about it. The best thing about it is that it is very adjustable. There are no pre-placed holes. You just poke the buckle through the material. At first I was not sure if that was a great idea, but I did not have any problems with it. For the money, I don't think you can go wrong.
A horse I ride at my barn uses this bridle, I personally love it.
