*AMAZING horse moment*

I just had to share this with others that I know will appreciate it....

Today I took apart my round pen panels and "fenced" in my front yard (just across one side, the rest is fenced) and made an extra 3 acre pasture for my horses....

So a little while ago, I hear my dogs barking so I went outside to investigate, just to make sure no one was taking my panels and/or horses! All was good, panels still standing, neighborhood is quiet (as it should be after 10pm).... so I went to spread some love around my lil herd. My gelding and stud colt are standing on one side of my back fence and my mare and yearling filly are happily grazing in the new "pasture". Little face pets to the gelding and colt, a hug for my grouchy mare who is trying to ignore me (but secretly she loves the attention which is why she mysteriously ApPeaReD next to me ) then here comes my homley little filly.... God love her.... She gives my mare plenty of space then walks up behind me and nudges my elbow with her nose, just a lil bump. So I turn and scratch her neck a little and kiss her nose. She does this little gathering of her feet under her body and lays down right on my feet! So of course I get all "Awwwwww" gooey, and I sit down with her just petting her neck and shoulder. She lays there a minute, then lets out this deep peaceful sigh and lays all the way over, neck in my lap, so of course I scoot my seat over to support her head. I'm not sure how long she laid like that, but it was long enough for me to start nodding off too! A horse in the distance called out and my colt answered back, so she and I woke suddenly and she sat up. I pet her a minute more and she laid back down again head next to my legs. So I came inside, ALL grins of course, to share my story. Once again, I am in awe of God's creature, the horse.

There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man. ~Winston Churchill

How sweet! And people say horses don't have feelings or personalities... Definitely Gods work at its best!

I love that my gelding will come over to wherever I am (if he can) and just stand quietly next to me. No sniffing all over, checking pockets for treats, demanding attention or any of that. He just wants to hang out with me.

That a prey animal will lay down next to you and put it's head in your lap, this is a wonderful moment. A gift, and I am smiling to read your story.

I think that's the part that amazes me the most, she's a pray animal and I'm a predator. I'm the alpha and she respects me (does anything I ask of her) and she feels safe enough to lay down with me (no longer a predator). What better compliment on my training style could I possibly ask for?!? =)

Definitely! Don't you just love those moments? That right there is one of the biggest reasons I'm hooked on horses.

Sounds like you've developed a great relationship with her! Congrats and give her an extra scratch from me.
