*Help* My horse has hives!!!!!

I went our to feed my herd and noticed that my tennessee walker had hives!!!! She is depressed and miserable. And of course this aweful heat isnt helping her!!!! What can I give her to help her! I have hosed her off today to try to help! I have no clue what could have caused the hives. PLEASE tell me what I can do to relieve her aweful itching!

Could be bug bites. With the hot weather come nasty, biting bugs.

Do you use flyspray on her before she goes out? If not, start.

If they are hives, call your vet to administer an antihistamine or cortisteriod injection.

If you do not know what caused the hives it is probably best to have your vet look at your horse.



My horse gets a hive reaction to some bug bites. I use Benadryl and that helps him.

But I would not medicate a serious case of hives with out talking to your vet first.

Thanks guys. I know for a fact that they are NOT bug bites because my friend has a horse that is prone to hives, and they look identical! I will call my vet asap!!!!
