*roles eyes* complete RANTAGE!

Mom and dad were waching some sort of cross country carage race on TV, and dad was all: "Those horses are supposed to be trotters, carage horses arent suppossed to canter", "They don't have a clue about what there doing".

(Uh OK, how would you know what they are supposed to be doing? Exactly?)

And then he says "See, look at all the horse shows you guys could be doing, all it would take is waking up early enough in the morning and getting the horses groomed and ready!".

I said: Yeah, but you would also have to have enough money to buy all the tack and equipment, not to mention the entery fees, health certificates, truck and trailer.

And he said: "How do you think we have gotten to wear we are? With all the money and extra funds that we have? We have twice as many horses as anyone with pockets full of cash. We have more tack than people who have lots of money."

(Yeah, that is true, we have 8 grade horses, and 3 registered QHs. 4 of which are are lame or close to it, 6 of them are still to young or not trained/trustworthy-which BTW is my responsibility to correct. We cannot afford to get them their vaccines or coggins done, and the only time they see a vet is if its dying, and they only get dewormed once a year unless I can convince them that they NEED to get dewormed or me and my sister foot the bill. Our 'tack' is makeshift crap out of scrapes from auctions and held together with bailing twine, and falling apart!)

Don't get me wrong, I love my horses and I am very greatful for them but when my dad calls me stupid(yes he did call me stupid) because I tell him that there is no chance in hell that we could possibly show because of 1: No money. 2:No equipment. And 3: No time because my chores take all my time. It pisses me off. Especially since I am paying to Deworm, farrier and help feed HIS horse that he doesnt even do anything with.

That feels better!

Appearently your dad has never heard of Combined Driving Events, aka CDE, which is what I assume he was watching (the WEG coverage... we were there watching it in person :) ) CDE is my favorite thing to do ;)

Sorry about your dad though. Why don't you tell him, if HE wants to show, to go for it? But YOU aren't at this point in time for various reasons. Then maybe he'll see what showing is like and realize you have valid points ;)

(but of course, you don't need fancy tack for many shows... so in some ways he is correct... not counting CDE as that takes some pricey carriages and good quality harnesses aren't cheap! LOL)

It probably is what they were watching. Its just annoying because he doesnt even really 'do' horses, that's mostly me and my older sisters thing. He likes motorcycles, and just kinda uses the horses as bragging mater.

I work my ass off to keep my horses healthy and safe(including fixing fences, building the inside of the barn AND bringing it on myself to learn how to trim hooves so that when I can't pay for it they don't have to walk around all lame) and it really gets under my skin when he says "all you gotta do is(insert ridiculously easy thing here) to successfuly do-bla bla bla". If that's *ALL* I had to do I would be freakin Brad Pitt by now!
