Both Ocala and Lexington are considered the "Horse Capital of the World" but I believe that Lexington is the most thought of city when someone thinks of a horse town. Not too many non-horse people know that Ocala and the state of Florida itself is a horse hotspot.

However, I can't think of a #1 place to live with horses. Generally any state or country will do as long as you have land, shelter, food and water.

Great post and a subject that has been on my mind lately. I think though it depends on what your pleasure is with your horse. Western/English, eventing versus endurance..or like me I want to be somewhere there are lots of horse owners that ride trail and access to tons of trails......
anyone know where that may be?

Don't take life so seriously. After all no one gets out alive.

Go to Oregon, I don't know if many people with horses live there. But seriously, a ride through Ecola State Park? Amazing. I don't care if they allow horses or not(;

We got some wind, and it's cold. But other than that no, we don't. Honestly, it's really not that bad during storms, as long as you know what to do to prepair. I don't live in a flood zone so I don't have to deal with that.

I think my number one place to live with horses is right where I am now. I love each of the four seasons and how the surroundings change so much with every one. No two rides on the trail are ever the same. I live in the country but not too far from the city up in the mountains. The only thing that would make it better would be if I owned all the property we ride on and the barn was mine too! I'd be in heaven!

Close to a state or national park. Plenty of trails to ride and you don't have to trailer out all the time.
If I had my pick and could stand the winters, I would live next to Yellowstone.

So in lies the madness, the pursuit of the impossible in the face of the complete assurance that you will fail, and yet still you chase.

Northern Nevada & Northeastern California - basically the east side of the not-so-High Sierra, from about Gardnerville north to Mt. Lassen.
