14 Hands Feels Really Small (funny)

So I was telling this horse breeder today that I didn't want anything under 14.2 because 14 hands just feels really small. I thought that because I am breaking in this mare that was 14 hands tall, and she feels sooo tiny.

I measured the project horse and she only stands 13.2. lol! No wonder 14 hands feels so tiny.

I think this ones going to end up a 4-h horse.

Same for me. I ride stock horses and arabians...what a mix! I can ride a 13.2hh quarter pony who is as wide as she is tall and feel sort of puny on her, then hop on a 15hh Arabian with a very narrow body and I feel...big for her o.o which I know isn't humanly possible because I am 4'10 and van ride virtually anything I want. But then I balance better on a narrow horse than a wide horse because of how short my legs are. With the wide ones it's like I can't get my equilibrium right and have a tough time.

She's a quarter horse, but lacks some muscle tone, I think she would be fine for just trails and stuff (I ride my 13.1 chunky quarter pony that I got when I was twelve, and he does fine), but I'm looking for a reining prospect.

I'm 5'7" and 150lbs, so I look pretty big on the little ones. ;)

I don't know how I got mixed up on her size, she must just look taller then my other quarter pony type cause she's leaner.

Ahhh, the days of short horses. My horse is 16HH, my next horse will be an Arab, 15HH or shorter, I am getting too old hoist myself up & down and heavy saddles up & down. Short is good.

Short is good.
Right?!
Lacey was 14.1 on a tall day, but she was wide and I didn't look all that big on her [I'm 5'8, but I'm mostly torso - my legs are not, at all, long. I can wear "short" pant lengths and be totally fine. hahaha].
Fabio is 15.2 and, even after being around him daily for a year, he still feels HUGE. I can barely get on him bareback if I use a lawn chair to mount, forget using the 10g bucket I used to use with Lacey! He's also much narrower than Lacey ever was, so I look about as well-proportioned to him as I did to Lacey.

They're both Arabians but man, I miss having a short horse! haha

...and the fact that they told me she was about 14 hands when I bought her. That's what you get for assuming someones right...Ha ha!

I was intending to break her in for a 4-h horse anyways, but she had such nice bloodlines I thought if she filled out I would feel comfortable on her and maybe keep her. I don't think that's going to happen.

I went from riding this (16.1 quarter horse)

Horse Bridle Trail riding Rein Equestrianism

to this (13.1 pony)

Horse Mammal Vertebrate Mane Mare

and it made me feel like a big cow sitting on that pony even though I'm only 5'2" and weighed in the 120's at the time. Funny thing I could jump on that gelding bareback easier than I could the pony. Never could figure out how much umph I needed to put behind my jump with her where with JC I knew I had to give it everything I had to make it.
