2014 World Horse Expo

Anyone going this year? I'll be heading to PA's.

Can't wait to see Guy McLean & Colleen Kelly again and all the other wonderful and not so wonderful clinicians.

What sessions look good this year?

Bumping this up as it's 2 weeks away and I'm going along with 3 of my friends. I've gone the last 3(maybe 4) years but this is my first year that I'll be staying at a hotel. I've been circling demos on the schedule they mailed me. Main things I want to see are Colleen Kelly's on the forehand vs engagement(since I'll only be there saturday, maybe sunday if we have money left, but doubtful), Suzanne Myers:an intro to long reins and long lines and Terry Piper:recognizing saddle fit issues.

Colleen Kelly is amazing. I always leave her sessions with my head spinning. I so need to make my reservations. I think I'm going for three days this year.

I think there's supposed to be a pet expo Saturday and Sunday at the PA one. I might sneak over to that to.

I took the day off work and will be heading to the PA Horse Expo tomorrow! I may or may not stop in on Saturday. I am SO EXCITED! This is my favorite Farm Show Complex event of the year! One of these years I will pounce early enough to enter the extreme trail competition with my gelding! I have so many demos I want to watch and booths to visit. =D I just can't contain it! I want it to be 10 am tomorrow already! Fortunately I live close enough that I don't need a hotel and I get free parking through my work. ^^

Yeah we're going on Saturday. Didn't get to Maryland's one because we were all broke, but we'll hike it up to Harrisburg. Looking for a new saddle pad myself, and maybe a halter or two. Trying not to spend too much money ;)

Not really going to watch any of the clinics, though we may stop if we see one we like. We just wanna shop!

I'm going with 5 friends tomorrow! SO excited. I have a lot of booths I want to visit. One of my friends and I are both going to be in the market for new horses this year, so we're going to have a lot of fun looking at horses, demos, and new goodies! Probably not going to watch clinics because we won't have a ton of time to spend there, but I may go back Sunday by myself and view some if I have time.

A warning to all re: restaurants in the area from a Harrisburg local (I live 3 miles from the Farm Show complex) - the Burger King across the street from the Farm Show Complex is one of the dirtiest and nastiest places I've ever been to, with some of the meanest and uncaring workers. AVOID IT at all costs! If you want a good dinner, get on I-81 going North and hop off at exit 69/Progress Avenue, literally the next exit up the road. There is a Cracker Barrel, a Macaroni Grill, and a Starbucks in the "Shoppes at Susquehanna" shopping center. You just have to cross through the light onto Valley Rd when you get to the light at the bottom of the exit, and it's right there. If you turn left, there is an Arby's and a Your Place (YP) restaurant a little ways up the road, though I can't speak for the quality of YP.

I just want to add to what Mulefeather said about the food. If you go past progress Ave to Jonestown Road there's an Olive Garden, a massive Chinese buffet and a few other good restaurants. I don't live in Harrisburg but I do commute in every day for work. :)

I spent all day at the expo today, watched some of the Extreme Trail. I think my gelding would have done everything except drag the cans. I'm not sure what he would have done if I tried that. I'm surprised so many riders had trouble mounting! You would think that would be the easy part but it was the hardest thing for some of them!

I also watched the "Equitainment" and the one about choosing OTTB's. I bought two halters from that custom halter stand in the middle. Rags got a teal and brown one and Ursula got black and lavender. Unfortunately, they did not have that halter in Ursula's size so I have to wait for them to ship it to me after the expo. :( The woes of owning a horse with a fat head!

I decided to go tomorrow too. I really wanted to see the one on bitting but I don't think I can get there at opening, because my husband and I have the morning shift at the barn tomorrow and I don't think I can convince my husband to get out of bed that early.

Loved theater equus! Such a nice show (and Guy was amazing as always).

Still haven't done any major shopping yet. Too many choices! I am thinking about getter one of those new pitch forks. With the replacement tines. Probably tomorrow.

Definitely going back tomorrow. Also can't wait to see the pet expo. Should be a fun day :)

I hope you all had fun today!

I didn't arrive until about noon, but I got to see Tommie Turvey's round pen demo on bonding, some more of the Extreme Trail, Colleen Kelly's engagement demo, and Terry Peiper's saddle fitting lecture. I got a Gentle Giant's Draft Rescue T-Shirt, but that's all I bought today.

I did not get tickets for the Theater Equus this year. I did that two years ago though and enjoyed it. :)
