Sorry I've been AWOL guys - still no internet at home and I've been so busy I haven't had time to worry about it.
DD had her first show of the year last weekend - we came away with a 1st in fancy dress and 2nd in U11 Lead Rein. I was very frustrated after our first class of the day - Show pony Lead Rein. The judge was incredibly rude, and placed the two proper "show ponies" in the class down the end. All the hunter/family ponies finished up ahead of us... it left myself and the man beside me scratching our heads and many spectators commenting. Somewhat curious if she realised that it was the show pony class, and not the hunter pony which was 3 classes later?!? Wouldn't know because she didn't even watch DD do her solo ride and turned her back to us. We also finished down the line in the U8 lead rein - it was a big class... winners all deserved their places and we finished in the middle of a class of about 25. I was happy with the placing - DD left her reins far to long and didn't ride to her potential so fair is fair :) We had a lovely day in the sun - brought a bucket of water, a lick (as a treat) and tied Nod to the side of the horsebox - she happily stood there for the day. It is some change from last year's pony who threw a tantrum in/out of the box and I had to hold him the whole time. We were there from about 9am - 6pm - exhausted by the end of the day (Nod took a nap in the middle of the U8 class) - but a day well enjoyed. Would you believe we forgot to bring the camera in the rush to get things organised?!? MIL has pics... just have to get them from her.
Nod is still at home.. oddly DH seems content for her to be there. She has just under an acre of land to mow for us and at 12hh it's plenty for her. DD and I are workin on convincin DH to build her a stable and keep her at home. It will make it much easier for DD to ride after school.
BIG NEWS - DD started cantering last week!! The boy next door came over and she was riding Nod and racing - her trotting, him running beside. Nod, being a bit of a speed demon was having none of it and nicely picked up her canter. DD has now got brave and is cantering around quite happily on her own. This pony is a SAINT.
Working like a trojan at the moment, finally starting to see it pay off. For the first time in a few years I have paid my bills for the week and actually had extra cash to play with. Yay!
I've been having serious run ins with incredibly rude/ignorant people the last few days... it is really starting to peeve me off. How difficult is it to be able to have a civil conversation and the most basic of manners?
Demon - Witch is lookin far better! Well done you, you should be proud of yourself!
Paige - Hope you enjoy your weekend away.. bring me with you!?!? Lol
Apachie - Hope Serenity is feeling better soon!
I'm sorry I haven't been able to comment on everything I've missed. I'm planning on getting into the internet shop and getting the dongle fixed this weekend.. so you guys can't get rid of me that easily!
Maple, that's great that your DD is getting braver! Cantering is a huge step but once they hit that step, there is no looking back, lol. Look out, she'll be wanting to jump next.
Serenity actually didn't feel too bad yesterday. The doc had me give her claritin to help with the rash, and ibuprofen of course, to keep the fever away and her aches down. She really hasn't run any fever with it, maybe a tiny bit the first night, but she has been having headaches. Overall though, she's been fairly normal, other than a pitiful moment here or there. She is still in the bed this AM though, which isn't like her at all. She is usually up by 7:30 at the latest and its nearly 9. Hopefully its her body fighting off the illness now that she's on antibiotics.
One other thing happened that I forgot to mention. I got fed up with my hair giving me headaches and handed the scissors to Mitch and told him to hack it off just under my bra strap (it was nearly down to my butt again). Um, yeah, he decided that it wasn't even enough and did the seesaw thing until he was happy with it. At least, that's what he claims, I swear he did it on purpose because he's heard me talk about if I were braver, I'd just cut it short. Well, yeah, it's shorter than it's ever been now (I know its not short short, but definitely short for me). And even though it feels WEIRD not to have all that hair, I love it.
Apachie--hair looks good, and it's possible that your hubby really couldn't get it right. I'll tell ya, wavy or curly hair is a pain to get straight...I once did exactly what he did to you to my daughter when she was little. LOL. And I'm really glad your DD is feeling a bit better. The antibiotics should take care of that straightaway.
MH, hope you're having a blast!
Maple, thanks! Been wondering where you got off to??! Glad everything seems to be going great.
So last night something weird happened. I went to go walk/lunge Strider (my icky looking rescue). He's been in the round pen after trying to jump out of his stall and cutting his legs up again on the top panel. ANYHOW, I went to open the roundpen and it's off balance or something. While I was struggling to pull the pin, some part of the gate pinched the webbing between my pointer finger and my thumb REALLY BAD.
Now Strider is a pretty personable fellow, and he had turned towards me and was moseying towards me when I was opening the gate. After I yelled out, I looked up and Strider was right at the fence, checking on me!
All things considered, Mama Pony, Pumpkin and probably Witch would have been off towards the opposite side of the round pen..and probably most other horses too, trying to get away from whatever scary thing caused me to yelp. But Strider was right there checking on me!
I don't know if the word "impressed" covers what I felt, but he's definitely growing on me!
Maple - sounds like DD is doing great and sounds like Nod is one heck of a pony.
Apachie, I thought I had a lot of hair, dang girl! No wonder you have a lot of headaches. I've had fewer since I cut mine, but not from that but when I do get them, it doesn't take forever to feel an ice pack now lol.
Demon - I feel for Strider. So glad he's in your hands. Look forward to seeing him blossom. Even if he stays short, it's not a bad thing to have a good quarter pony around ;) Sounds like he is doing very well.
I thought I'd share something, I figured you guys would be proud of me!
I got on Witch today...yeah, it's been weeks, the hubby has been riding her nearly every day, but **** man, she is such a PITA that I couldn't get up the energy to tack her up...struggle with the bit...struggle to get her to stand still so I could mount...struggle to make her stop headtossing...
So anyway I rode that evil horse! We had a total argument AND I WON!!!!!! Yeah!!! I outwitched that horse!
She kept trying to pick up a trot, go where she wanted, eat grass, trot behind the pastures....I made her WALK the whole way, I made her circle when she tried going her way, I made her back up when she kept not listening...
=D I made her walk further up the road than hubby has made her go!
I'm sore as hell, but I totally won today's battle!!!
I had a great weekend!! It was so nice to get away with Robert and the dogs. We stayed in the same cabin that we were in last year, which was kinda funny. At least this year I didn't have to worry about the "symphony" of Robert, his brother and his nephew at night. Lol. Gassiest buggers I've ever met!! We ended up renting a car from my work and because the guy who does the rentals loves me (we wash his cars and I always make sure he has what he needs), we ended up paying less for the car rental (including a full tank of gas) than it would have cost us to take Robert's truck or my car. Besides, neither of our vehicles would have made such a long trip.
Anywho, the dogs did great. Abby has never been great in the car, but she only threw up once and that was when we got to the cabin, oddly enough. Robert went to get her out of the back of the car and she threw up on him. We tried harnesses on the dogs for the first time. Cash has an Easy Walk harness that I've used on him with great success, but he honestly did better with the regular harness. Abby pulls constantly with a flat collar or choke chain, but I put the harness on her and she doesn't pull (well, doesn't pull as much lol). Cash loved all the kids and people coming up to him and saying hi. Abby wasn't so sure. She was okay if they went up to Cash first, but if they approached her (especially the little girls), she would cower like she was going to get beaten. Which is weird because we've never hit her. She did not like the little girls. One came running up to her (leave it to me to look away for half a second) and she literally bolted the opposite way. She hit the end of the leash and the leash ripped open my middle finger. Ouchie. By the end of the trip, she was loading in the car on command (it was a fight to get her in before) and was even peeing on the leash (she's never gone to the bathroom while on a leash before). Both of them were glad to be home, though.
Then we got home. *sigh*
Robert's mom showed up at the house with his brother because apparently a neighbor had complained about the yard (the stuff that C had for the yard sale originally has been sitting in the yard for the past three or four weeks!). C keeps blaming the stuff still sitting there on everyone else. First it was because the boys (Robert and J) wouldn't help her take it to the dump or donate it. Then it was that she called a couple of the thrift stores that pick up donations, but they couldn't come out when she was available. Never once did she even consider loading up as much stuff as she could into her Yukon and taking it in herself. Heck, there's a thrift store less than a quarter mile away that probably would have come and gotten it (but she is all up in arms because she has to have a receipt so she can write it off on her taxes). Anyway, so C and J go outside and start moving stuff, then Robert and I go to help them and find J royally pissed off. We loaded as much as we could into the back of Robert's truck and he dropped it off at Goodwill this morning. We found out why J lost his temper...and we honestly don't blame him one bit. Apparently, J asked C if anyone had been caring for one of their aunts' graves, and she said "Who cares about that s***." Then C told Robert that she's be happier if we were living spmewhere else. I can't believe the gall of that woman sometimes. Posted via Mobile Device
Gosh! I've missed you all! :) I have had so much going on since the kids have been home. Got my son settled I think. It seems like from day break til right about now I'm running or busy with something around here! So hope I'm back for good! Posted via Mobile Device
Hey Drafty, looks like the Karma Bus is finally starting to hit your MIL. With the exception of my ex and his evil wife, I honestly can't think of a better person!!!!! I suppose that isn't very charitable, but at least it's honest ;) The sooner you guys can get out of there, the sooner you can both breathe a big sigh of RELIEF!!!
B2H, thanks, I'm glad at least a few people out there that sorta know me think so. ;) I know my daughter wants to come home, I know it isn't easy there and she isn't happy. She likes her half bro and sister(s), but she is resentful of them because her dad took all her toys and gave them to them, while all she has is his hand me downs that his Mom brought for her, from when he was a kid. This has been hard on her....but it can't last forever. Truth always finds a way to make itself known.
MH, glad you are having fun with your family. =)
Ok so I was so busy with the trainwreck that is Strider that I neglected to post updated photos of Witch. Here are her pics from BEFORE, when we got her from Camelot, followed by similar poses from two days ago (or whenever I took these, haha? I don't know anymore)
I feel like she isn't as "lumpy" and has more meat on her bones. I am not really experienced enough to say more than that, but she does *look* better.
Okay...I have a million things still to read and am way behind, but I have to say that Witch looks BEAUTIFUL to me now! She was a pretty horse with potential even when you first brought her home; and now she's healthy and shiny and looks happy! You guys are obviously doing great with her...BTW...I really love her colors...she's gorgeously colored! :0)
