I'm about >.< this close to sending Aires to the meat market. I know it's my fault for not working with him more, but you'd think he would remember SOME of his manners. He was being pushy, spooky, antsy and just a butt today. He got a bath and his mane roached. His mane kinda looks like crap, but I'll fix it later because we'd both had enough by that point. I have pics, but I'll put them up later. Right now I'm taking a shower and relaxing.

Sorry to hear that, Paige. My mare was a major butt the other day, too. After a long workout, she decided getting along was so much easier.

If he hadn't wrenched my bad shoulder and I hadn't been so dehydrated, we would have had a serious come-to-Jesus meeting.

Ok. Pics. I also have some confo pics, but he needs his feet done and I'm not sure if I should put them up. What do you think?

Doing his best friesian impression. There were a pair of Tom turkeys displaying next to the turnout and all the geldings were going "What the...?!"

After his bath and roach. It looks like crap, but we were both done by the time I was done.

I think I need shades. That white is WHITE!

My horses don't get to see turkeys, but when the neighbors mini donkeys got out a couple years ago, they were all wearing that expression.

ETA You know we love all kinds of pics!

Sorry he was a butt. I agree about the white part! Want to come scrub my grey mudball?

If it were me going to post a confo critique (which I won't, can't imagine anyone that would pick them apart like I already have lol) I would hold off until his feet are done. One, because that could become a discussion point and two, if they aren't in balance that very well can affect how he stands and appearances of things that may or may not be there simply because his hooves are out of balance.

Decided that instead of a birthday party for DD we are going to take her on a mini-vacation to Chicago for 3 days instead. I had enough reward points from my debit card to pay for 2 nights at the Four Seasons (or one night at the Trump Tower, which was tempting). Woohoo! So the plan so far is one day of shopping on Michigan Avenue, mainly for her to go to the American Girl store and DH to go to Nike Town. Then a zoo the second day. The third we haven't decided. I want to go the science & industry museum, DH wants to go to Adler Planetarium and DD wants to do EVERYTHING. Plan to take her to lunch at Ed Debevic's (youtube it, it's so much fun!) and a dress up dinner at the Signature Room on the 95th floor of the Hancock building. I'm mainly excited that 2 of my good friends are going to handle the farm & horses for me while I'm gone and I will get to sleep in and not have to do chores....AMAZING!

Thanks Ca! I hate the prep and planning (like deep cleaning the house) that a birthday party requires so it's the perfect way to go for me. DD is excited because aunts & grandparents are just giving her money to spend at the doll store instead of buying her gifts. We plan to do the photo shoot thing there, they take a pic of kiddo with her doll and make it the cover of american girl mag, plan to get extras that she can "autograph" and give to them as thank yous. I'm really excited to be able to get away for a few days. It's been crazy around here and especially after losing Hondo I am ready for a break.

MHF, that sounds like an awesome birthday trip. I am totally with you on the whole, prep and clean thing, it's a pain. That diner does look like fun. There is a diner in Myrtle Beach and Broadway at the Beach that is very similar, and we have eaten there several times on vacation. The name is escaping me right now.

I was putting horses out a bit ago, and heard a crash in one of the trees. The limbs were still shaking so I went over to the base of the tree and it was a poor squirrel. He either fell or got knocked out by another squirrel. I thought at first his back was broken, he could only move the front end and was panting really hard. I put him in a bucket of hay and carried him up to the breezeway so nothing could eat him until I figured out what to do, and by the time I got there, he was kicking one back foot. So maybe his pelvis, or the other leg is hurt, or maybe he was just stunned really badly. Anyway, he's in his bucket for now, and I'll check on him in a bit to see if he's better. If not, I have to decide if a wild squirrel is worth a vet visit or not. My mom and I have done a lot of wildlife rescue, but squirrels are tricky. They are great if you raise them, but are prone to biting if they are full grown and wild. This one is young, but he's an adult, so it might be risky to treat him myself.

ETA, Johnny Rockets! That's the diner at Myrtle I was trying to remember!

Awww, hope the squirrel is okay. I'd have a tough time deciding if it was worth a vet bill though. My hubby would likely want to choke me if I took a squirrel to the vet lol. I have a friend that has 2 flying squirrels as pets in his house. Cute little things for sure!

I think we saw a Johnny Rockets when we went to Orlando the last time at downtown universal. We ended up at hard rock and the food sucked.

Apachie, how's the squirrel?

MHF, I've heard great things about the science and industry museum. I would absolutely LOVE to see the Animals Inside Out exhibit.

I had a great day today! I woke up at 6:45 in a fantastic mood. For someone who, as recently as two weeks ago, couldn't fall asleep until 5 AM, this is some serious progress. And to top off the greatness of the day, my little brown mare worked so well. I'm so proud of her.

ETA: Even better than that, DS, who struggles with math, brought home a 100%! Even prouder mom!
