Advice/thoughts wanted!

In March I rescued a young Colt that was supposed to be around 9 - 12 months old from the knackery, he was completely unhandled and stood around 12hh, I purchased him knowing a little of his background. His parents both stand a little over 15hh, the sire being an ASH and the dam being QH, though since having bought him home he has grown very little and I'm becoming concerned, he's on a property with four other horses with plenty of grass and occasionally gets a bale of Lucerne. He looks perfectly healthy and has put on a ton of weight since bringing him home, he just doesn't seem to be getting any taller. Is this normal? Is there something he's needing in his diet?

This is my first experience with such a young horse, so I'm not quite sure what to expect, all advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance. x

Are you positive about his dam and sire or was that just what you were told? If you are not measuring him he might be growing more than you think. Sometimes we tend to still see them as they were and not how they are now and then BAM! one day you see a big difference.

If you are not providing any kind of supplement a more regular feeding (like 1 flake a day instead of an occasional whole bale) of the alfalfa (lucerne-I think they're the same anyway) would not be amiss in order to give him regular supply of calcium.
