Okay so this isn't a serious rant, more a joke really and everyone feel free to stick your additions on here. Just the little things people say about you or your horse that sting a little bit... even if they shouldn't.

Example: riding in a group lesson, once finished a lady commented on my horses 'tiny pony strides' and how it was 'so cute'. Hey lady, my horse isn't a pony! And those 'pony strides' are the product of six months of hard work teaching him to COLLECT, COLLECT, COLLECT. Yes, we got an astounding 9 strides in the 6 stride line of poles but 6-8 months ago we would've gotten 5 flat, no option of 'collection' offered.

Clearly I can laugh it off now, and she obviously didn't have any bad intentions, but it makes me wish I could just brag about his progress instead of biting my tongue and saying 'yeah, he's cute isn't he!'

Apart from silly things that people say about horsemanship in general (because there have been LOTS of threads about that), I dislike when people, both horsey and non-horsey, sometimes say that:

* My horse is "nothing special" (oh please, just because he didn't cost thousands and thousands, and because we don't do high level competitions, gives you no rights to evaluate my horse as a "nothingspecial" )

* He's fat (apparently, you've been looking just at your trotters and purebreds, and forgot to educate yourself about the typical conformation of carriage horses and drafts)

I usually don't let these things get to me, because I know they're just not true.

"he is too pretty to be a standardbred" or "he can't be a standardbred because he is tall" or "good thing you are next to the mule rescue". The first one, my family bred this horse so yes he is a standardbred. Yes he is tall to the second one and the third one just go F$%^ yourself. With these kinds of comments on the ground there is a reason I don't ride in public.

I don't like hearing about how awful one of mines hooves look. Yes, I know they're awful, I got him worse than that, it isn't like I can magically repair them or force them to grow out! Trust me, I would love to start exercising and training him.

I also hate that my dogs still feel the need to bark at the horses and cows. It's been a month, get over it!

"Oh your appaloosa's tail is fake right?"

No crazy, keep your little jealous *** over there.

"I've only been around horses a year and Im already a farrier and a trainer."

Oh really? How long were you an apprentience for a farrier? And whats the first thing you do when starting out a 2year old mare to ride?

"Just make him go over a 5ft jump. The people on tv do it. It cant be that hard. Maybe you're just a bad rider."

How about I ride western and they ride English? How about my horse isnt conditioned to jump anything over a foot and half. And maybe I am a bad rider but I dont see your *** on a horse going over jumps that 5 ft, or let alone even on a horse at all.

When really good riders at my barn complain that "They aren't good riders."

When other people at the barn steal cross tie spots that are clearly yours. (This happened to me twice yesterday, I even had ALL of my tack and brushes there and was just going to get my horse at that point.

I'm sure I'll think of some more.

Yuuuuup! I got this line the other day ' wow, you really got after him, he looked so scared (my horse)' ....what they didn't happen to see was my horse NOT moving of my leg......
I just smiled and said 'yes, the fur flys when I get pi$$ed off'.

Ps. My horse didn't look scared, he looked compliant!!!

For a while I was getting "you are SOOOO lucky Bandit is so quiet and easy to deal with"

I spent months teaching the big oaf that walking through people and barging through gates was NOT acceptable. I spend hours reinforcing that he wasnt to move a muscle until I told him he could. I spent more than 30 min the first day riding him working with a horse who kept threatening to go up on the hind legs and doing little hops.

Yes, my horse is quiet, yes he is a gentleman and I love him to pieces.. BUT i worked my **** off to get him there! Maybe instead of telling me how easy I have it.. they should put the time and dedication into their own horses.

i told someone today that when i go over to my friends house (who has horses) that we ride horses, and she is like "you dont do normal things?".... umm... when over a friends house with horses and you both love riding, riding IS normal  i would describe her as a "city kid" who literally whines when you take away her phone... get a life..

Reminds me when I was in elementary school, I had to go to school in the city for a bit... I decided to start my own "horse club" with some of my horse crazy friends. All the "city kids" thought we were absolutly insane, but hey, I was the only one who missed a lot of school for horse shows and clinics

I work at a rescue as an apprentice trainer. I love the constructive criticism. Gotta learn somewhere right? :D

Well one of our volunteers is constantly nagging at me about using a bit. The first horse I trained which I ride a lot, bareback, is a 20 yr old mustang, light riders and light riding only. She moves perfectly off of my leg, any direction I ask, I can back her around lots of different things (its fun to try obstacles) with just my leg.

I have complete control of her with just the halter, so no, I am not going to use a bit. Now if it was another horse, I would probably use a bit. I know I'm learning but I'm not an idiot either. My boss/trainer doesn't see anything wrong with it as long as I have control of her.

Of course I'm nice and I am always open to hear someone's point of view even if I disagree. I listened to his spiel once and he still won't leave me alone about it. I just ignore him and do what I do, but ya totally annoying LoL

I was the same way ^^^ LOL. Maybe city folk don't think it's normal when I stroll into the store in my boots and riding clothes. Then you hear, "Why are you wearing THAT?" Like you're a disgrace to society in all your riding clothes.
Funny story from last night last night though, we had a hard nights work of getting ready for winter, and rode a little bit also. SO and I decided we wanted wings from Buffalo Wild Wings (if you haven't had it you're missing out.) SO, I ordered on my horse, then picked them up in my riding clothes, dirty and smelling like horse. My normal outfits and the looks I got couldn't have been better haha.

Girl at my barn, talking about how I ride my horse (she has ridden her in the past):

"She's really unbalanced at the canter, huh? But, you mostly just walk/trot anyway, right?"

Wow- thanks for managing to slam us both in one tidy comment  I know she didn't mean to be nasty, but that's why I much prefer riding when no one else is at the barn!

I just encountered this and have to share. A new colleague of mine got to know that I have a horse and wanted to see pictures. In one of them she sees me leading my gelding by a lead and his halter, and exclaimed - Ooh, why does it have a leash? I thought you said they are smart - how are they smart if they just don't go where asked and need leashes?
