American Pharoah went wire to wire with his ears pricked, and broke the track record by five seconds. This was the first time Pharoah has ever competed against older horses, and he didn't even give them a second thought. He is the first Triple Crown winner to have the opportunity to run in the Classic, and win the so-called "Grand Slam."
American Pharoah is retiring off of this win to Ashford Stud. Good luck in retirement you sweet, lovely machine!
It was an awesome race to watch, he's never looked more fit. He ran the race in 2 minutes flat. The record for that race is 1:59.02. So he was just under a second off the record.
An amazing athlete who should now be allowed to rest on his well earned laurels. I hope the owners stick to their promise so that he never has to race again. Looking forward to his first foal crop to hit the track in 3 or 4 years. Posted via Mobile Device
It was an awesome race to be at! I got a betting receipt with his name on it, an AP/BC shirt, a program from the BC, and some great pics/vids and memories! I'm still just so excited I don't even know what to do.
NICE! What a great experience! I watched the race on my phone, while in full costume, sitting on my gelding. For the Juvenile Fillies I was driving in the pouring rain to a show and pulled over watch haha.
I got to see him three days in a row when he came to Monmouth, however. Such a good-natured individual.
I am still kicking myself for not going to the Preakness... I didn't see the race as it happened but I got to see it on Youtube. What a horse, what a year for him.
I would love to go see him at the stud farm, but you can imagine how many people would be calling them every day for the next few months if they ever even had a single thought about letting people tour their farm. Oh well, hopefully I can see him at a retirement farm some day. Maybe if he goes to old friends I can go work on his feet.
What I loved is that, unlike any of the other horses, his ears were pricked forward the whole time. He would flick them back, for a second, probably to hear what Espinosa was saying. This horse simply loves what he is doing.
I hope he passes his temperment and skill to his offspring.
Nope, I think I've done that every time I've watched his races (sadly have only seen him on TV).
My dad, who made me a racing fan by taking me to Saratoga at the age of 5 or 6, even texted me last night and said he was teary-eyed watching AP go out a champion.
I didn't get choked up watching his race. But was very happy to see it. Was smiling watching Mike Smith give yet another textbook Hall Of Fame ride to get a big lonshot up for second. A little sad to see Honor Code not do so well. Don't know his plans for next year, but look for him to go on to be a great sire. Was a little surprised in the way Victor ran the race, although Jery Bailey saw it coming. In most of his races, he set faster early fractions, wore out his competition trying to keep up, and geared down at the end. This time modest pace, but poured it on down the stretch. It did add something special looking back.
I did get a little choked up watching Runhappy' s race and coverage after. I was thrilled for his trainer. Loved the story. Loved that they mentioned how she cares for her horses. So proud to see females so prominently featured.
I thought NBC'S coverage was outstanding. TVG'S was as well. Even the commercials were great.
I don't know much about racing, but I do love Pharoah. That was a beautiful win! He was ahead the whole time! I wish I could go see him. ❤ He must have a great temperament. I mean, look how much he enjoys his job! Those ears were perked most of the race!
They call Lane's End the house that AP Indy built, only fitting he return there and follow in his sires footsteps. I think he will go on to be another Pulpit, and continue that sire of sires tradition.
An astounding horse. Even I, with my limited exposure to horses, could see his conservation of motion as he ran in comparison to the other horses. Just as smooth as silk with every possible ounce of energy devoted to forward motion. Beautiful win, and I'm so happy for him to have achieved this grand slam!
I've seen commercials before, but his was a good one. Pioneer Of the Nile stands at Winstar. As mentioned big fee. More than Distorted Humor and Tiznow ( only 2 time winner of Classic) . As I said before great seeing so many fans. Anyone of yall add me to friends if you wish.
Someone was asking about barn tours. Several years ago, I had an AMAZING one at WinStar (before PofN was there). They took Tiznow out of his stall and let me love on him and feed him peppermints. I still curse the terrible quality camera I had at the time, but here I am with Tiznow:
Their farm tour was amazing, I'd highly recommend it. Staff were friendly and so gracious with making the stallions accessible. They really do seem to care about fan involvement and frequently run fun contests (foal naming, fantasy Kentucky Derby, etc.) to keep people engaged.
I can't speak to other farms because I haven't personally visited as a fan, but I've heard other folks say other operations are similar.
I was excited. When I saw Victor lloking around at the half, I knew it was over.
