Another parent rant from yours truly.

Here's the situation:
I've been a western rider my whole life and recently got hooked on English, so I've been saving up for a used English saddle that will actually fit me and my horse.
Well, I found one that's a complete steal and everything I want.
I'm 17 and waitress part time (I put in two 8 hour shifts nearly every weekend).
I have more than enough money put away for the saddle I found.

So, I approached my mother about it today and told her that I found a saddle, and it's less expensive that most saddles I've drooled over for the past year, but I just need to know how to get it from where it is to here.

Her response was basically that she didn't care and wasn't going to help me because it has nothing to do with her.

I've been in the English saddle fight with my parents on and off for the past year and all I've gotten out of them is:
- "It's useless"
- "How is it going to benefit you? You already have a saddle."
- "It's a waste of money."
And other negative things.

So, now I've hit a wall. I want to go ahead and get it, but I dont have anyone to help me figure out the payment and shipping.

Alrighty, I'm done.

Where did you find the saddle? You're 17, old enough to open up a bank account if you want to. If you're buying this saddle online, you can open a bank account and use a debit card. If you're buying the saddle from a person, maybe you can find someone else to give you a ride? You can also get and mail a check or money order if the buyer will accept it. It's your money, you can do what you want with it,and there are a lot of ways to get money from one place to another these days.

Best of luck, hope it works out!

The saddle is 2 provinces away.
I have my own chequing account...
And I'm scared of sending money in the mail... it's always sketchy

Most places you have to be 18 to open your own account unless your parents or someone will cosign on it.

someone posted a while back about a saddle they got for a great deal but by the time they had it shipped it ended up costing them a fortune....

Do you have a PayPal account? I don't think you have to be 18 - I think it only requires a bank account. PayPal is pretty much the most secure way to transfer money to other people when you can't use a debit card or hand them cash.

I've had a bank account at a national bank since I was 17, and I never had to have a cosigner. Maybe other banks are like that, though. I've had the same bank account for 6 years now or something.

I'll look into PayPal...
Gotta talk to the seller a bit first, just to be sure.

I'm more annoyed by my parents not being supportive of me doing anything that isn't team roping, which I cant even do at home LOL

English is for them sissy kids!

Just kidding. English is pretty hard work. I hope you get the saddle. Maybe a friend could drive you out there? Don't go alone though, people are kookie these days.
