Well, here are some vids of Nelson and I working tonight. We are both out of shape and out of practice since his injury and severe colic in January - but I would have to say I am pretty darn tootin' impressed with his recovery!
His leg has come such a long way, and he's now on great suppliments through Smartpak for his Digestion, Ulcers and the damage done due to his colic.
He needs about 100 more lbs, and alot of conditioning - and I need to lose lbs, lol, and condition.
Here is his leg as of now. You can still see where it is "Swollen" but my Vet says that it is scar tissue and that's just how it is going to be. No heat, no puffyness, nadda - so that's where it is going to stay till the day he passes:
Here are piccies of us riding, not that great but here ya go:
And video's of us riding tonight. No laughing. We are both very out of "it" since we've been out during January.
There ya be Just wanted to share our "progress" with ya! Tell me what you think!
He looks fantastic considering what he just went through. You did such a good job with him, and I'm really glad you're putting him back into action. He was such an active boy, I think it's great for you both. Great riding by the way, again considering the break you just had to take.
Can't wait to see how you guys progress and get back into full motion again. Will be really exciting.
Ha....MIE Do I need to come all the way across the country to video you??
Not sure what type of video cam corder you have, but if you have the kind you can put on a tripod you could experiment with just setting it up so that is faces the long side of your arena and have it focused so that when you ride down that side it will video you.
Who cares if there are others riding by etc. At least you would have a snippet to review.

Thank you My2Geldings! Very kind of you to say, and thank you for taking the time out to give me your kind and encouraging words!
He did Jump Teams today with a friend, and he did wonderful! I am uploading the vids now

I really like your horse!
As Spyder has said, there is much less "bend" in a shoulder-in. Back in the day, judges were anal about it being a true THREE track movement. Sadly, people tended to over do it so much, they actually changed the standards. While three tracks is still more correct, they are actually accepting four tracks! Go figure. If you can't get it right, change the standard so what you ARE doing is now OK.
Anyway...I digress...
One comment I will make is incorporate transitions in your work. I saw Nelson kinda sliding around the corner still kinda doing SI. I like to make sure there are clean transitions from straight, to SI, back to straight. All my lateral work has clear beginnings and ends.
Many people allow horses to "slide" into transitions during schooling. Then they have to undo some of that training later. Go ahead and incorporate clear transitions now as part of the easy schools.
I am looking forward to seeing more vids of you two.
I'd say Nelson is ready to have more added to his workout regime! Sunday, a friend didn't have a horse to use for the barns competative "Jump Teams". Her horse is lame, so I said she could use Nelson. The level she rides, I was very comfortable to allow Nelson to jump with her, and it was a great opportunity to see him move
I'd say Nelson did pretty darn tootin' good, considering everything he's gone through in Jan! lol, cept he took complete advantage of her in the corners....lol, or lack there of.
I took vids - to show you his movement and how impressed I am with his recovery. No other reason.
This vid is not for critique, unless you see someting with Nelson.
I just wanted to share the vids with my friends here on HF, to show how far Nelson has progressed.
Way to go Nelson! I know you don't want any critique, but I have to agree with Allison. You ride him soooo well, it's clear just how great of a team you guys are. Can't wait for more vids!!!!! So....you're gonna let me ride him when I come visit, right? ;-P
No, it was just severe tissue damage. We discovered he doesn't like the pony beside him, and one night, while I was pre-bagging and portioning his weeks worth of feed and suppliments, I heard and saw him kicking at his stall in the general direction of the pony.
Naughty boy - so the pony was moved and a mare was put in his place, so now Nelson has two mares on each side of him, which makes him happy.
WOW-weeeeee!
Yay for the Neslon come back!
I do agree you look better up there, but what an honet guy he is!
He is a sweety.
It is cool to see him progressing and moving on!
I liked what Maura had to say about "being clear" in the transition in and out of the SI, or any movement.
A friend of mine (dressage trainer) has a book that she wrote. It talks about these three things:
Preperation
Execution
Recovery
It is a neat book/workbook because it allows you to write those things out for each movement in your dressage test.
This is a tool I need to impliment more my own self..haha...
Anyway.....congrats on Nelson wonderful progress.
