I'm a recently paraplegic female who used to love horseback riding before being injured. I never thought I would ride again until I met my current trainer, who owns and operates Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding Program. Renee (instructor) has been so great to me over the last year, and I want to give back to her. From what I understand the program is about thirty grand in debt.
Recently (2 weeks ago or so) they had a fundraiser where they earned about 17 grand, but the man that ran the fundraiser took 12 out of the 17 earned. Now isn't that messed up? I wouldn't want to be one that can say they took most of a therapeutic riding program's money. Anyway. In that fundraiser was a dinner, silent auction, as well as a live auction. Now, Renee has done auctions and fundraisers for years and normally did well until this man came along.
One problem with just organizing another auction and dinner is that she desperately needs money to buy a tractor, since they were given a grant to buy a lift, tractor, gator, and hayfork a while ago. She bought the lift, gator, and hayfork, but had to stop at the tractor because she didn't have the money to pay salaries (barn manager, 2nd instructor that steps in when Renee herself can't teach lessons). She needs to show receipts for each of these items by December, or she has to give the people that gave her the grant all of their money back.
Basically, we are in a mad dash to get money to first, get a tractor, and 2nd, help chip away some of that debt.
Does anyone have any ideas?
The only ones that I'm entertaining right now is fundraising through Applebee's Dine to Donate program, as well as a small fundraiser through my school's FBLA.
I would post the program's video, but I'm not sure if it's allowed or not since I just joined.
Here is a picture of myself and the horse I ride. If you look close enough, you can see my wheelchair in the picture.
