Anyone know the color of this miniature filly?

I do hope this is an okay board for this topic, pardon my newbieness =]
Anyways, I had a miniature filly born this year. Her sire was a black/white tobiano and her dam was a bay snowflake appy that went grey. When Dixie was born she was a dun with a dorsal, shoulder patches and cobb webbing on her face. I was pretty sure she would shed out her dun factor and become a bay. Expect she had a nearly black undercoat. When she was 3 months old I body clipped her and she came out sorta a greyish brownish roan color. I don't always determine a horses color when there body clipped as it can really change it. For example, my deep blood bay stallion body clips out a really light buckskin color. Anyways, now that her winter hair is starting to come in, it's like a tannish brownish color like she was when she was born. BUT then I find patches of new hair coming in black! It's the oddist thing. I'm not talking about her black points, I am talking about on her rump and back. Does anyone have any idea what color she may be? I thought maybe a light bay with a lot of counter shading on her back, but I don't believe it is. It's too spotchy. Does anyone have an idea??

Dixie - one Day old

Dixie - 5 Months (before getting winter coat)

Well, she's not black because she has brown on her nose. Just dark brown?

I thought so too, but the light brownish color with the black back has me baffled!

mmm brown I would say as her mane and tail have the same brown colour. Is it the way the light is shining or does she have a little bit of roan colouring on her backend?

Yep, she has roaning from her shoulder back. I have been wondering if she is getting frosting...maybe the black patches on her will turn into white as she ages?? She has been getting a few white snowflakes in that area. I know that appies seem to change color yearly...my neighboor had a soild sorrel colt born and then the next spring he shedded out a sorrel leopard. It's so hard tellin what they'll do!

Is her mama a gray? It looks like it in the pic and if so, then I will almost guarantee that she is going to gray out. Grays go through some really funky color changes before they start turning gray.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

Yah, she will go grey at some point, or at least I think she will. The mare is not homozygous grey but has thrown about 50% greys. Her greys don't go grey until there about 7 or 8. The only time she had a one that turned grey as yearing was when she was bred to another grey, lol. So if Dixie is the same she shouldn't go grey for awhile now, if she even does go grey.
