    Arenas at home

I'm curious for people who keep their horses at home and have an arena, how much extra expense/time is it to have an arena?

DH and I occasionally discuss looking for a horse property of our own, but I feel I would really want an arena (a covered, though not necessarily enclosed, arena). On one hand it seems excessive to build/maintain an entire arena for one rider, but I know I wouldn't ride nearly as much if I didn't have a dedicated/dry riding space or had to trailer somewhere else to use an arena. My gut reaction is that an arena would be prohibitively expensive and time consuming, but I'm hoping I'm wrong

So for those of you who have an arena at home- how expensive was it to build? How expensive is it to maintain? (Not necessarily looking for actual dollar figures; I know that will vary based on a lot of things) How often do you end up dragging it, watering it, or doing other maintenance on it?
