Average Life Expectancy

So this may be a really dumb question, but I was talking to my dad about how long icelandic horses can live, and he asked whether it was like with dogs--how the larger the horse the shorter their life span. I wasn't sure. Do the smaller horses generally live longer than the larger ones?

I think so, that's what I have heard anyway. Not 100% sure though...

I have always been told minis can live as long as 60 years compared to bigger horses average in their late 20's to early 30's.

I have not had the chance to meet a 60 year old mini, the oldest one I know of that I have seen is 23 and I do not see him making it to 60 due to health problems.

I've always heard that ponies and minis live longer than full size horses. It is common to see a pony in their 30's whereas it's much more rare to see a full size horse in its 30s

I believe that to be true...same with dogs really - the little ones seem to always outlive the bigger ones.
