Today, I had a lesson at a different barn than I normally go to. I've been helping my friend out at shows and she was kind enough to pay for me to do a lesson on her horse with her trainer. It's helping her out too since she's not been able to go out and ride him for a few weeks.
The trainer is an older gentleman who's big into reining. And boy is he intimidating. If you or the horse do something he doesn't like, he will let you know LOUD and clear. Scared me a few times to be honest! But his aggressiveness helped me. Not only was it a lesson for me but it was actually training the horse for the better. As someone who's only been riding for a year that's certainly something new. The horse had not been stopping very well, and under the guidance of this trainer I got him to stop on a dime within one session. We did rollbacks, spins, going from a halt straight into a lope... all things I've never done before packed into one session.
And then after I watched a little mounted shoot, learned some neat horse tricks, and learned a few new things about grooming. He was looking fab!
I usually leave my normal lessons feeling decent to good, but today I'm feeling especially accomplished. Hope I have more successful rides!
Had to share, sorry! Tell me about your awesome horsey moments! Anything from riding successes to accomplishing something new with your horse.
