Awesome Horse Moments

Being relatively new to riding, I love having ground-breaking, successful moments when it comes to my knowledge about horses.

Today, I had a lesson at a different barn than I normally go to. I've been helping my friend out at shows and she was kind enough to pay for me to do a lesson on her horse with her trainer. It's helping her out too since she's not been able to go out and ride him for a few weeks.

The trainer is an older gentleman who's big into reining. And boy is he intimidating. If you or the horse do something he doesn't like, he will let you know LOUD and clear. Scared me a few times to be honest! But his aggressiveness helped me. Not only was it a lesson for me but it was actually training the horse for the better. As someone who's only been riding for a year that's certainly something new. The horse had not been stopping very well, and under the guidance of this trainer I got him to stop on a dime within one session. We did rollbacks, spins, going from a halt straight into a lope... all things I've never done before packed into one session.

And then after I watched a little mounted shoot, learned some neat horse tricks, and learned a few new things about grooming. He was looking fab!

I usually leave my normal lessons feeling decent to good, but today I'm feeling especially accomplished. Hope I have more successful rides!

Had to share, sorry! Tell me about your awesome horsey moments! Anything from riding successes to accomplishing something new with your horse.

At the moment since I have no saddle I am getting to know Belle as a horse
And she seems to be bonding with both Marc and I
I have a video but Marc has it on his computer So I will get it later
I had a good time lunging Belle then I took her out to eat grass
I gave her the treat I made for her and I also gave her some carrots

What a wonderful lesson! :) It's so helpful to have different riding lessons with different trainers

I find I have my best riding in between lessons.. when it's just my horse and I figuring it out :)

I love having lessons like that! Sounds like it was very educational for you and the horse.

I love when something clicks with a horse I'm riding! One time I was riding my friends horse for a couple weeks (while she was out because of an injury). I'm possibly obsessive about stopping so we did a LOT of that. The first day he would walk through my voice and seat commands I would have to use rein to back and stop him. Next day he was better but still had to occasionally use rein and backing to get his attention. On the third day I was able to take off his bridle for cool down (something I hadn't done with any horse but my own in a very long time) and he would stop off of my seat and voice. Amazing feeling when a horse goes from guessing to knowing what you want!

My friend did complain a little ;) She said she was asking for a stop and almost fell off he stopped so quick hahah.
