My first pony/horse was a 12hh welsh mountain pony named hercules.
He was grey with the most beautiful flowing main and tail.
He was a riding pony at the riding school i'd been going to for about 4 or more years.
Hercules was small so used for little kids to ride. It wasn't that he was spooky but he'd get excited and pigroot when he jumped or cantered which made him uneasy for kids to ride.
One day I was booked to ride him and it's easy to say I fell in love.
We had a connection. I started riding him a lot more often and soon I leased him.
He stayed at the riding school and was again used as a riding pony when I couldn't ride him.
Everyday my mother would drive me out to see him. I looked after him, loved him and he loved me.
Everytime he saw me he'd gallop up to the fence to greet me. Whenever I took a tumble he'd come right back to me and made sure if I was okay.
He was the sweetest pony on this planet.
I went to my first show on him. It was held by the local pony club. We both lloved jumping so we did jumping rounds, novelty events and won a few.
He was the pony for ME.
A while after I started leasing him I got the news I was moving accross the country and he was apparently 'too old' to take with me. He was 23 years old but had the build, mind of a 9 year old! I was devistated and it was the time for me to finally say goodbye. I lead him to his paddock and left. He knew something was wrong as well.
That was the last time I saw him.
He would be about 27 now and i've heard he is still used at the riding school.
After I moved I lost my love of horse riding but i've come back into it a few years ago. I've had a horse since him.. a stubborn, wild caught brumby mare who we tried to break in but didn't work out so we sold her.
I now ride an amazing QH gelding 9years old. 14.3hh. I love him. He has the same feeling as hercules. Although he can't jump as well.
This horse has also been for sale but now not. I'm hoping one day i'll end up with this horse one day.
I miss hercules more and more each day knowing i'll never see him again.
Thought i'd share.
