Exclamation Best way to find shows?

As it gets colder, I'm already thinking about next year's show season. I want to do more than I did last year. A lot of what I missed was due to bad planning, but since next season will be my last full year of showing before I go to college, I want to do all I can.

I want to do shows that have the standard halter/showmanship, english, western events (which is what I have been doing), but I want to do some jumping classes as well. If I could find shows that have all of that in the show bill, it would be amazing. (I show primarily English, but I love showing western!)

Breed shows are not ideal, because I have two horses; one is a 13 yr old AQHA and the other is a 2 yr old APHA. While I could do the breed shows with Comet (the quarter horse) and show the 2 yr old at open shows locally, I do not have a membership in AQHA and I don't want to fork out that expense unless it is the only way to show all of those events.

I live in Michigan, and I want to find shows that have more events. I have looked on GoShowMichigan.com and HorseShowCentral.com, but it can be hard to find shows that are reasonably distanced.

Do you guys know some good ways to find shows? (unfortunately, people don't post flyers about them anywhere because not many people show in my town).
TaraBearaIsBack likes this.

Riders aren't 16 and pregnant. Riders are 16 and arthritic.

Well I'm not sure about in michigan, but in the Northwest we have a free magazine that they have at feed stores that includes a list of local shows each month.

Also, I can understand not wanting the pay for the AQHA membership, but there are perks! I'm going to be showing AQHA this year for the first time and I'm going to shoot for winning the Rookie of the year Award which comes with a scholarship and boots for youth! They have winners in every state and also a national one I believe. And you could also take your 2-year-old to the AQHA shows I believe because they have all breed classes now as well (at least at the shows I have watched).

Check out my progress with my AQHA filly Scarlett!

There's a page on fb that's titled Michigan horseShows. I'm not sure how well kept or what kind of variety there is..
