BIG news for the horse industry..why so hush-hush?

i know everyone has STRONG feelings about this and I don't mean to start a debate. I think at this point most people understand both sides despite their own stance on the issue.

Personally, I understand why proponents feel the way they do and feel its necessary ( a lot of it boils down to irresponsible people ) but the animal lover in me will never agree with it.

Anyways, I'm just shocked this happened over ten days ago and NO ONE is talking about it.

Though I don't agree with horse slaughter, It's kind of hypicritical because we slaughter cows, and chickens for consumption so really whats the difference, even though I will not be eating it. And as far as I know it is legal to slaughter and eat your own horses if you want. So while I understand that horses are more of pets, because we ride them and what not, other people only see them at meat, and money. It's a difference of culture.
It's the nature of the beast, if we didn't have so many back yard, irresponsible breeders just like in the dog world we wouldn't have so many unwanted animals.

Actually, everyone is talking about it. There's more than one thread about it, even.

Oh! Ha I didn't see any? Thank you for the heads up though! I was also referring to outside this board however. I found very few news articles, nothing on humane society, peta, etc. I was quite surprised.

Maybe those who thought that a ban was a good idea have seen the law of unintended consequences come into affect, and have decided that just shutting the h3ll up and letting slaughter quietly start again is the best service that they can give the horses.

They are in "Protection" section of the forum I believe.
