Here are the ones that I own:

I read some of those... I used to love the Fury books, by Albert Miller and there were three books by Mary O'hara (my friend Flicka, Thunderhead, and the Green Grass of Wyoming) that were really good... And then there was Saddle A Thunderbolt and a fictional book about Man O' War that was really good... And I read Seabiscuit.....

You would probably like books by Jim Kjelgaard also, his books are all about dogs but they are fun to read also...

Wow...yeah, I read those when I was a kid. I wonder if you can still find them, I read them 20-odd years ago and even back then the books looked (and smelled) like they'd been printed in the 50's. Talk about a flashback:P

I don't read them anymore... but I have the books. Mine are actually in pretty good condition. I was just remembering the pictures...

WOW... I was just looking at the date in my book... the copyright is 1937... and I can't find when the book was made...

I have some of the fury books and that saddle a thunderbolt one... they were old when I got them! I think the library got rid of them because they were so old... but they are still good!

Another one I read back when I was a teen was "blue ribbon summer" by nancy morgan... it was really good....

i'll say a flashback-loved those books and had a ton of the furry books-did any of you read Black Beauty? It broke my heart and made me a sap for the rest of my life-i lost it on the train in Oregon state after the 100th reading and was inconsolable. Never lost another book!

Another goodie very old was "Nautilus" the horse with the flying tail=
Disney made a docu movie about him that I saw when I was 7-or 8.

I think one of my favorites was Smoky the Cowhorse...really loved that book. Think Black Beauty set in the American west.

There's always the Black Stallion series. This is the FIRST series, from the '60's/'70's. And the Margarite Henry books: Misty of Chinquotigue, Sea Star, King of the Wind - love those books. The illistrations were so beautiful. What wonderful memories. Another author who wrote some dog books is Albert Payson Terhune. Lad A Dog, Lad of Sunnybank, Buff: A Collie. Great books for kids (and adults who like to reminisce).
Thanks for bringing up some really nice memories for me!

Looking at the trail through the ears of my horse...wonderful!
