A question about blankets. Our BO blanketed our draft cross horses this past winter and we would like to buy them their own blankets for next winter. I am pretty sure how to measure and what weight to get, but what I don't understand is the numbers in the description, like "1200D" or "300g" like in this ad: https://www.amazon.com/Tough-1-1200...g=UTF8&refRID=W0PGZW31PNGHEBWNXHQ6&th=1&psc=1
If someone could tell me the basics, I sure would appreciate it! thank you!
Easy explanation...
1200 D is the number of threads per square inch of made fabric.
The higher the number the stronger the material to resist tears and such.
Blankets can start at about a 450D and go to 1680D I've seen....
300G is the number that reflects the filling or warmth factor.
Higher the number the warmer the blanket.
"0" is a sheet and no warmth.
"300" is pretty warm...
Might I suggest Horse Turnout Blankets from Schneider's Saddlery for a place to consider buying your blankets.
Simple, easy to understand web site with good description of cut, fit and warmth factor.
This place also has a large offering of "draft" sizes.
Many here purchase and are very satisfied customers of this place and their products, me too.
:runninghorse2:.....
1200 D refers to the weight of the fabric itself. 1200D has a larger thread than 600D, and is a heavier, stiffer fabric and thought to be more durable than a lighter weight fabric.
300g is the weight of the fill, or how much insulation the blanket has.
There's lots of descriptions on the web if you want to search for it.
Thank you for the explanations, and I will check out Schneiders!
