brands!

I've known this horse for 6 years and like a year ago noticed the brand on her shoulder. It's really hard to see in plain light. My flash on the cam brought it out big time.

Anyone seen it before? ....4.. Lt.. LI.. Lazy F. ?
No idea!

That takes either flat out knowledge of brands or near criminal investigation
I found out about my mare by identifying her brand.
Luckily the CA brand book is online and free.
Google "livestock brands". All kinds of things come up. Helps if you know where she comes from, tho.

My mare wasn't branded by her breeder. Her second owner did it and had all records. That way I got her registration number and eventually her pedigree

Yeah.. Here you have to search by county. So not happening. I don't even Know if the horse is from here originally. All I was told was
She was used for polo.
And recently I found that brand.
She's in her 20's now

I knew a polo player who branded his horses because someone bought a trained horse from him and claimed that he trained it instead. From then on, he branded all the horses he trained.

If its a private brand, then the brander has to register the brand for every year that they want to use it. If the registration runs out, there are really no records of the brand left other that word of mouth or memory.
