The closest horse supplies/tack store is quite a while away from where I am, and I'm pretty angry about it because they need to make one up here, there's already 3 next to each other down there and yet they don't make one up north for us. So anyway, I was wondering if you buy supplies online like wormers and tack and stuff and what do you think about it? Should I order saddles online or is it best to bite the bullet and travel out there so it can be fitted? There is a stock feed shop 20 mins away where I buy the feed containers, salt licks and hay and grain so I wouldn't need any of that stuff. So what do you think is best? Travelling or ordering?
It's really up to you. Just how far is the tack store from you? If you'd rather go, then I'd plug their number into your phone and call ahead of time to see if they even have what you want. Variety and even price will more than likely be better if you shop online, though. I hate waiting for shipping personally but if they're just too far to be convenient then that's what I'd do.
It's probably 3 hours away with traffic, it's not that far away but it would be handy having it way closer. I know a website that has pretty quick shipping and cheap stuff. I was just wondering what you would do with things that need to be fitted like saddles? Have you ever purchased one online?
I've ordered some stuff online. Halters, saddle pads, bridles, bits, that sort of stuff.
Most of the stuff has been good. The only bridle I bought online was junk, but for $60 for a draft English bridle, I shouldn't have been surprised.
As long as I was familiar with the brand, I would buy a saddle online. I wouldn't buy anything I didn't recognize the name on, though. Some places allow trials on their saddles to make sure it will fit. Others have you send a back/withers tracing. Posted via Mobile Device
That sounds alright. I will probably be doing that then, saves me always travelling out and wasting petrol when it's cheaper online anyway. I won't be buying the cheap stuff, I'll buy my most trusted brand.
My closest tack is 2 hours away, if we need a new halters, lead ropes or buckets I'll order on line. I think the only thing we haven't bought online are saddles, I was want too make sure those fit and I like it before I buy it. In fact you reminded me I need to buy some new halters, thanks! I think most of my horse shopping is done online. There are a few nice horse specialty shops around here but sometimes ordering online is cheaper or saves me a little time (if I don't need supplies right away).
I recently bought a saddle online as well but am aware it might not work out. Think you have to be careful with saddles and other tack though! You're not there in person to really get a good look at it.
I buy a LOT of things on line but never an unknown brand or product. I would never buy a saddle without knowing the brand, model and size, kind of tree in it, etc. For some things you just don't want surprises.
Thanks for the advice everyone. at the store they do saddle fitting, the store is Horseland btw. I was wondering how the saddle fitting actually works, like if they come down or if you have to go down or bring your horse?
I have ordered my saddle online, but I tried the exact model on my horse beforehand (I borrowed a friends). It was a big name brand so I knew there would be no surprises with the quality.
If you deal with food quality companies ordering on line is not an issue for daily supplies and nonspecific stuff. I have ordered basic grooming and the lower end stuff from schmeiders , my leather working gear is either an Amish custom or a Harris. Heck last year I picked up the phone and called Harris leather for a specific show halter my daughter wanted for Christmas.
My saddles came either Martha Josey or Harris, for this I just trucked the horse in to a
Show if I wasn't comfortable deciding what I needed Its
Not rocket science to measure the horse and match it up to the specs.
